The Cask of Amontillado The Cask of Amontillado “The Cask of Amontillado” by Edgar Allan Poe is a drivel about two men at a carnival, the teller Montresor, who is being eaten by jealousy, and Fortunato, a rich drunk earthly concern that has a weakness for wine. It is through deception that Montresor achieves his penalise against Fortunato. He did non believe that killing Fortunato is wrong because of the insults and injures Fortunato brought against him. “The super acid injuries of Fortunato I had borne.” (Poe, 75) says Montresor. Montresor brought Fortunato down into the catacomb.
This was his chance for revenge. In the opening threads Montresor explains what Fortunato has do to him: “he ventured upon insult I vowed revenge”(75. The next line Montresor explains that he did not threaten him back and he did not react to the threats.
